We’re hand-building a mobile pantry on a trailer — and this is our main focus right now. The front side is a pantry stocked with food, water, blankets, clothing, and hygiene supplies: everything a person needs if disaster strikes and they lose everything, or if they’re homeless and need the basics to get through the day.
The back side has an entry door leading to a shower stall and an accessible restroom — because dignity matters — plus power strips with up to 10 plugs on each end so people can charge their phones, and a mobile hotspot so neighbors can get online and contact loved ones when their own internet or phone service is down.
Local teens volunteer on the build, trading their time for hands-on skills, work ethic, and time with other kids in a drug-free atmosphere. When disaster hits anywhere in the U.S., Breadcrumbs rolls out with relief. Week to week, it sets up in low-income Baton Rouge neighborhoods — in library parking lots, anywhere that welcomes us — reaching people who can’t travel to a fixed pantry.
